The Caseman

Casey Bloyer is a long time member of The Turf. He started out as an intern and pretty much never left. The former Chadron State football player loves the Yankees (good) and hates Notre Dame (bad). He also hates animals and soccer and is never shy to share his opinions. You can meet and talk sports with Casey at his store, "Field of Dreams," in the Park Meadows Mall, lower level, next to Dillards (www.fieldofdreams.com). Turf listeners get a discount. The amount depends on what kind of mood Casey is in. Best to shop there after a Yankees win than a loss. Casey's beautiful family consists of wife Bethany and daughter Bailey.

BASEBALL IS HARD WORK...THANK GOODNESS! ...By Casey Bloyer (5-28-09)
I am a huge baseball fan there is no getting around it. The game just pulls me in, every little bit of it.
When people say it’s boring and nothing is going on, this tells me they have never taken the time to learn the game. Baseball is not a game that you learn overnight, it takes years and still you are always learning something new. This is why I don’t think kids are into baseball anymore. The game isn’t easy and it takes time.
When I was a kid I played on many different little league teams. Also, in my free time, I would gather a bunch of friends and find a vacant field to play baseball on all summer long.
Kids today would rather play baseball on the T.V. with their video games. I also believe too many parents pick up the remote control instead of a couple of gloves and a ball to have a catch with their kid. Some of my greatest memories as a kid growing up were playing catch with my father and my brothers. The conversations we had over a game of catch were priceless and I will always cherish those memories.

Baseball is hard work and requires patience. This generation is simply into instant gratification.
Baseball is built on failure and our current society believes that children should never fail. They don’t even keep score these days at youth sporting events so there are no winners or losers! How sad is that? We are so ready to save kids from anything that we are causing more damage than good. The sooner they realize that you are going to lose in life sometimes, the better. It’s what you do when you lose or get knocked down that makes you a better person. That is why baseball is so great.  If you hit safely 3 times out of 10 you are considered successful.
Other sports are not as deliberate as baseball. It takes a lot of hard work to be good at this game and lets be honest, isn’t that how anything that is worth something should be.
